Daily Bulletin on Meningitis « A » Vaccination Campaign 28 November to 04 December 2013 - Day 4
Bansang, in the Central River Region (CRR). During the vaccination days people were crowded waiting to get vaccinated. The total target population is 147.842 people from 1-29 years old.
On day 3, the coverage is 62%. The vaccination centres were well organized. What is important to raise as best practice is the real involvement of the community leaders to help for a good targeting of those who must be vaccinated. Two days before the end of the campaign, social mobilization officer are working on the target population of 16-29 years old. This young people are not always targeted by the Expanded Programme of Immunization (EPI). In the CRR only 43% have been vaccinated on day 3 compared to the 82% of the 1-5 years old in the same Region.
Picture showing the construction workers coming to get vaccinated (page 2), this is a result of this successfull social mobilization towards the 16-29.
The other good practice in CRR is the clear role distribution. If an Adverse Event Following Immunization (AEFI) is suspected all the procedure is in place and the teams available to manage it.
